Most Wanted Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir
These are the top seven most wanted terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi: A list of top seven wanted terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir was released recently. The worrying factor in the list is that all seven terrorists hail from South Kashmir. The Asian Agereported that the region was not a hotbed of hardcore militancy till a few years ago, which is why the security forces are looking at the trend with alarm. Over the weekend, the security forces killed 10 terrorists in a major offensive in Shopian, which has become a terror bastion in South Kashmir.
As per the report, the seven A++ militants include Riyaz Naikoo (Hizb-ul Mujahideen), Showkat Tak (Lashkar-e-Toiba), Zakir Rashid Musa (Ansar Ghazwat Ul Hind), Zeenat ul Islam (Hizb-ul Mujahideen), Dr Saifullah (Hizb-ul Mujahideen), Saddam Padder (Hizb-ul Mujahideen) and Altaf Kachroo (Hizb-ul Mujahideen).
While Riyaz Naikoo, the Hizb-ul chief in the Kashmir valley, hails from Beighpora in Pulwama, Showkat Tak, the LeT commander in Pulwama, hails from Pulwama’s Panzgham. Ansar Ghazwat Ul Hind chief Zakir Rashid Musa hails from Noorpora in Awantipora. Zeenat ul Islam is from Shopian while Dr Saifullah comes from Pulwama’s Malangpora. Saddam Padder, one of the top wanted terrorists, hails from Shopian’s Heff Shopian while Altaf Kachroo is the Redwini locality.
Over the past few years, Shopian has come to be considered as the ground zero of terrorism where many youths joined the terrorist movement. However, the weekend offensive is being seen as a major success in anti-terrorist operations. Sources in the security establishment believe parents of disappeared youth would now encourage their children to shun violence and surrender.
Among the 10 terrorists who were killed over the weekend included Ishfaq Ahmad Thoker, alias 'Abrar', Ubaid Shafi Malla alias 'Abu Huraira', Zubair Ahmed Turrey alias 'Abu Bakar', Nazim Ahmad Dar alias 'Furqan Bhai', Rayees Ahmad Thoker, Yawar Itoo, Adil Ahmed Thoker, Ishfaq Ahmed Malik alias 'Umar Bhai', Aetimad Hussain Malik and Sameer Ahmed Lone.
Considered a gateway to the Kashmir valley for being strategically located on the way to the historical Mughal road, Shopian had nearly 30 active terrorists till the weekend encounter. The area, south of the Peer Panjal mountain range, can provide free access to terrorists to cross over to Doda, Kishtawar and Poonch area of Jammu, officials said.
More than 50 youths from the area had "disappeared", a euphemism for joining various terrorist groups, after the killing of Burhan Wani, the poster boy of Hizb-ul Mujahideen, on July 8, 2016.
